HER SOUND, from idea to impact

Some projects start with a commission. HER SOUND started with a conviction.

As the initiator and producer of HER SOUND, created together with production company Captains, I wanted to create a film that showed the cultural impact and growing influence of women within electronic music, both on stage and behind the scenes. What started as an idea evolved into an international impact project, bringing together artists, brands, festivals and young creators around one shared story.

From the very beginning, I focused on building the right ecosystem around the project. I connected strategic brand partners including ABN AMRO, BUMA/STEMRA and DGTL Festival, each contributing from their own perspective on equality, culture and the future of the music industry. Together, we transformed the film into more than a documentary, it became an impact-driven collaboration.

One of the elements I am most proud of is the original score. Instead of taking the traditional route, we deliberately worked with young female producers and composers, giving new talent an opportunity to shape the emotional identity of the film itself. The music became part of the message.

The film features artists and voices from across the electronic music scene, including Charlotte de Witte, Joris Voorn and pioneer DJ DJ Isis. Alongside the creative process, I personally handled negotiations and partnerships with international artists and their teams, helping to bring together the right voices and perspectives for the story.

From the beginning, we deliberately chose an open distribution strategy through YouTube. Instead of placing the film behind a paywall or exclusive platform, we wanted HER SOUND to be accessible to everyone worldwide, especially for younger generations discovering electronic music and looking for inspiration within the scene.

The project ultimately became a major success, generating strong national media attention and a total estimated reach of more than 4.3 million people across online media, radio, print, television, social platforms and podcasts.

Results

  • 47 media publications

  • Estimated reach: 4.3 million people

  • Coverage across online media, radio, print, television, social and podcasts

  • National radio appearance on NPO 3FM to discuss the project and its impact

On a personal level, the interview day with Charlotte de Witte was one I will not forget anytime soon. Sitting down with arguably the most influential techno DJ in the world, hearing her speak openly and honestly about her experiences, ambitions and challenges, made a real impression on me. There was an immediate connection, a relaxed atmosphere and above all, it was simply a very special and genuinely fun day to be part of.
